THE FRENCH AND VIDEO
GAMES 2025

France has never had so many video game players. In 2025, 40.2 million people played at least once during the year, representing more than seven in ten French people.

This historic level confirms that gaming is no longer a niche activity. It has become a popular, universal and intergenerational form of entertainment, deeply integrated into everyday life.

The average player is 40 years old, with near-perfect gender parity: 51% men and 49% women. Among players aged 16 to 30, women are now the majority at 55%, highlighting the continued diversification of gaming audiences.

Engagement is also reaching new levels. 76% of players play at least once a week, with regular players spending an average of 7 hours and 55 minutes gaming each week. Players use 2.2 platforms on average, combining smartphones, consoles and computers.

Gaming is also a powerful creator of social and intergenerational connections. 65% of players share their sessions with others, up six points compared with 2024. Among online players:

  • 86% play with friends
  • 79% play with their children
  • 76% play with family members

Gaming has also become a strong cultural and identity marker. 39% of players describe themselves as gamers, rising to 56% among 10 to 30-year-olds. Half of players aged 16 to 30 have made friends through video games, while 36% belong to a specific gaming community.

For brands, gaming offers much more than reach. It brings together a diverse and highly engaged audience around shared experiences, social connections and communities that play an increasingly important role in French culture.
